In March 2023 I had the privilege to spend one week in residence at the Lou Harrison House in Joshua Tree California, immersing myself in a week of focused practice, contemplating matters of tuning, improvisation, and our environment. I set up a recording system in the House’s beautifully resonant Great Hall, and took two day-long hikes in Joshua Tree National Park with my refretted tricone resophonic guitar, looking to bring its sounds to the environment, and the environmental sounds back into the House. The resulting recordings are presented as a set, with the central improvisation (recorded in an arroyo off the Lost Horse Mine trail) lending its title to the whole.
